Whitby is one of Britain's foremost tourist areas, and no
wonder.
Whatever your interests, this part of the world can probably
satisfy it.
Whitby itself is an old, working fishing port combined with
a busy tourist centre, full of pubs, restaurants, shops and
places of interest - Whitby Abbey, the romantic ruins overlooking
Whitby, was the setting for a famous Bram Stoker novel. Whitby's
most famous son was Captain Cook, and one of the world's earliest
documentary photographers, Frank Sutcliffe, worked in Whitby.

Whitby has a beautiful sandy beach, perfect
for family holidays, and as an added attraction, the harbour
often hosts visiting tall ships, including the replica Endeavour
and the Grand Turk.
The town is on the edge of the North York Moors, and this,
combined with the spectacular coastal paths, offer endless
opportunities for walking and wildlife watching.
